Sundons Gift

Posted in trotters on March 12, 2010 by lombo5

Blackie’s effort was wonderful, but don’t forget the great performance of the outstanding trotter, Sundons Gift in the Sunnyfield Trotters FFA. What a crying shame his Inter Dominion Trotting Championship win was not on the same day or at least part of the Inter Dominion carnival. Many people went to Menangle to see the great trotter in action as well as the Pacers Finale.

Further to Maori’s Idol post

The phrase “King of the trotters” was coined by racecaller Wayne Wilson when he called Maori’s Idol the winner of a heat of the Clive Uhr Championship at Albion Park when the great trotter defeated some of Australia’s best pacers.

Maori’s Idol the “King of the trotters”

I have been reading blogs that discuss the greatest trotter of all time - all American trotters of course. The greatest trotter of all time without question was an Australian trotter - Maori’s Idol. There will never be another to compare with the ” King of the trotters. ” See him in action below

What’s wrong with the Inter Dom?

Posted in trotters on March 2, 2010 by lombo5

All of the changes, that’s what ! To return it to its former glory revert to the age old format that worked for decades. Please let’s have three heats over varied distances- a true test! With a week between heats the momentum is lost. Forget the ridiculous bonus point system ( Thankfully Christchurch are going to do this in 2011).  The Trotters’ Championship should be held as part of the Inter Dominion carnival at the same time as the Pacers’ Championship at the same venue. Anybody who knows the history of this great event will tell you that the Trotting Championship has often overshadowed the Pacing Championship or at least has equalled it in interest. A majority of participants want to change back to the old format. Administrators take note. Please stop calling the event ID 09, ID 10 and so on ( sponsors name deleted ). This great event has a correct name - PLEASE USE IT. Check out the Inter Dominion Hall of Fame at :

world cup of harness racing?

Posted in Uncategorized, trotters on May 18, 2008 by lombo5

How can we have a World Cup of harness racing in Australia with pacers only? Europe is not included if this is the cast. The most common harness gait in the world is trotting. A true World Cup would be a World Cup of trotting.

Clive Palmer may be a godsend.

Posted in Uncategorized, trotters on May 15, 2008 by lombo5

Clive Palmer is to be congratulated for his initiative in bringing two American trotting stallions to Queensland. Since the re-introduction of the trotter to Queensland very little has been done to engender development of the trotting gait and trotting races in Queensland. Mr Palmer obviously understands that the sport of harness racing needs diversity and the diagonal gait provides that. It is a pity that other high fliers in the industry don’t seem to understand this. To date trotting ranks consist of older horses who have reached their mark in Victoria or New Zealand and these horses are not the future of trotting. There are some trainers who have appreciated this and are breeding their own trotters, but Mr Palmer’s initiative provides the opportunity for Queenslanders to breed and race their own horses. This initiative needs support and the future of the square trotter depends on that support.
